Origin of Sin

Origin of Sin

What is SIN?

1John 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Answer: The Bible says that sin is the transgression of the law. This begs the question of what the law is. The Bible makes the connection between the law and words. Psalms 78:1 says “Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.” What then has God spoken? God spoke and wrote the 10 Commandments down on two tablets of stone. These commandments are found written in the Scriptures. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4  “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”  When we do not keep the 10 commandments, that means that we transgress God’s law. The principles of His divine law are also recorded throughout the entire Bible. To not obey what is written in the Scripture and to disregard the 10 commandments results in sin or the transgression of God’s law.

WITH WHOM DID SIN ORIGINATE?

1John 3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning….

Answer: Satan has a few other names including Lucifer, and the Devil. He is the originator of sin. He was cast out of heaven. (Revelation 12:9).  Lucifer was his name before he was rejected from heaven. The Bible says in Isaiah 14:12  “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!…” Also Jesus said “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” (Luke 10:18)

WAS LUCIFER CREATED BY GOD?

Ezekiel 28:13-15  Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Answer: Lucifer was created by God just like the other angels were created by God. He was beautiful and perfectly created. There are two angels that stand on the left and right of God’s throne (Psalms 99:1). Lucifer was one of them.

WHAT LED LUCIFER TO COMMIT SIN?

Ezekiel28:17  Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Isaiah 14:13-14  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Answer: Lucifer became full of pride. He gloried in his wisdom and beauty. Lucifer thought that he could have the throne of God. He didn’t want God’s beautiful character, but instead desired to possess God’s power and authority which were not his to possess. Lucifer wanted worship for himself, and still to this day this is the theme of controversy. He tempted Jesus to worship him in Matthew 4:8-11, and Jesus did not give into the temptation. God is calling us to worship Him and not Satan (Revelation 14:6,7). People don’t have to worship Satan directly to honor him. People will worship at the altar of self, power, prestige, food, pleasure, possessions, and own opinions. God calls all people to have no other gods besides God (Exodus 20:3).

WHAT WAS THE CONSEQUENCE OF LUCIFER’S REBELLION?

Revelation 12:7-9  And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Answer: Lucifer is so deceptive that he won the support of one third of the angels in heaven. Once he had his following, he began a war in heaven. Lucifer wanted the throne of God, but he lost the fight and was thrown out of heaven. No one can war against God and win. Another name of Lucifer is devil which means slanderer. The devil, to this day, still brings God’s character into disrepute. However, according to the Word of God 1 John 4:8 states that God is love. It is craziness to fight against the God that is love.

DOES SATAN DWELL ON THE EARTH?

Job 2:1-2  Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Revelation 12:12  Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Answer: Satan does not manage a place called Hell. However, what he does do is tempt and harass people on the Earth. Adam and Eve lost dominion over the Earth because of disobedience (Genesis 1:26, Romans 6:16). Then Satan became ruler of the Earth (John 12:31). Satan hates God. Because Satan can’t hurt God directly, he chooses to hurt God’s creation which includes human beings that are created in God’s image.

WHAT DID SATAN DO IN THE BEGINNING OF EARTH’S HISTORY?

Genesis 2:16-17  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Genesis 3:4-5  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Answer: God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Every other tree was safe to eat from except one. This was a simple test of their trust, loyalty and obedience to God. Satan tempted Eve to eat of the tree. He lied to her, and she doubted God’s command. Eve transgressed the law of God and her husband followed in her footsteps (Genesis 3:6). Satan is the father of lies, and he still uses the same tactics which he used in the beginning of Earth’s history.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL SATAN BE PUNISHED, AND WHAT IS THAT PUNISHMENT?

Matthew 13:41-42  The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;  And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Revelation  20:10  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Ezekiel 28:18-19  Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

Answer: At the end of the world, Satan will be cast into the lake of fire. Satan will be turned into ashes and will be totally obliterated out of existence. The same judgment will occur with the fallen angels and unrepentant human beings. God does not take pleasure in this. Lucifer and the angels were close to God and before the rebellion they all had a close relationship. The pain God will feel over the destruction of them all is indescribable.

WILL THE SIN PROBLEM BE FOREVER RESOLVED?

Romans 14:11  For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Philippians 2:10-11  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Isaiah 45:23-24  I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.  Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.

Answer: All created beings in heaven and earth will of their own free choice kneel and publicly confess that God is truthful, fair, and completely righteous. As Satan has slandered God’s character, no questions will be left remaining about how good God is. All the lies Satan has brought against the character of God will be laid out open and all will see that Satan is a liar, and that God truly is the God of love. All sinners will admit that they are lost and confess that they have with determined effort refused to accept God’s love and salvation. They admit that perfect justice demands they die because the wages of sin is death. All sin will be purged from the universe. The final destruction of sin, sinners, the devil and his angels will forever remove sin. The transgression of God’s law will never occur again. After the destruction of sin, we have a universe filled with the goodness and love of God to look forward to.
