Is the Bible A Trustworthy Source?

In this morally corrupt and confused generation, what is there left to trust? People have trusted in politicians, religious leaders, and scientists, but have time and time again been left sadly disappointed with the results. Is there a resource that is available to all people that provides relevant truth-filled statements? The answer is a resounding yes! Find out why the Bible is the ultimate resource for your every need, and examine the evidence for yourself in the following short statements.

What Does the Bible say about itself?

The Bible says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God (2 Timothy 3:16). Moreover, the Bible says that prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21) and that the Scripture cannot be broken (John 10:35).

Answer: The Bible is the inspired words of God (Word of God). The Holy Spirit guided the men of Scripture on what to write. The Bible is infallible which means that Scripture cannot be proven wrong.

WHAT DID JESUS SAY ABOUT THE BIBLE?

Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” In verses seven and ten Jesus again repeats the words “it is written”.  Jesus again and again throughout His ministry referred to the Bible as His sole source.  Jesus expressed His confidence in Scripture by saying in John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Answer: Jesus quoted Scripture when meeting the temptations of the Devil, and He stated that the Bible is the truth. Jesus taught the authority of Scripture.

IS THE BIBLE TRULY INSPIRED?

Isaiah 42:8-9- I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

Isaiah 46:9-10-  Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Answer: The Bible makes many predictions about the future. When those predictions are fulfilled, they confirm the inspiration of Scripture. Take these Bible prophecies for examples:

  1. Prediction of four world empires including Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome in Daniel chapters 2,7 and 8.
  2. Cyrus was to be the warrior to conquer Babylon in Isaiah 45:1-3
  3. The City of Babylon would never be inhabited again in Isaiah 13:19, 20; Jeremiah 51:37
  4. Egypt would never again be the leading nation of the world in Ezekiel 29:14, 15; 30:12, 13.
  5. Moral decline and loss of true Biblical spirituality in the final days of Earth’s history in 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

DOES THE BIBLE SUPPORT SCIENTIFIC STATEMENTS?

Psalms 119:160  Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The Bible is true, and the same Holy Spirit that lead the Bible writers is the same Spirit that will lead us to discover all truth. Look at these scientific statements supported by Scripture.

The Earth is suspended in space: Job 26:7 says “He hangs the earth on nothing.”

The Earth is round: Isaiah 40:22 says “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth…”

Air has weight: Job 28:25 says “To make the weight for the winds…”

THE UNITY OF SCRIPTURE

The 66 books of the Bible were written:

  1. On 3 continents
  2. In 3 languages
  3. By 40 different people from varied educational backgrounds
  4. Over 1500 years
  5. On the most controversial subjects
  6. By people who had mostly never met before (few had actually known one another)
  7. While in perfect harmony with each other
  8. With new concepts discussed that do not undermine what other Bible writers say about the same topic

It is very rare when people give reports about the same event that each account is in harmony with one another. Yet, the Bible keeps perfect harmony in all 66 books over a span of 1500 years. Clearly, the Bible is a trustworthy source!

THE BIBLE CHANGES LIVES

2 Corinthians 5:17- Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The inspiration of the Bible is supported by the lives of converts to Christianity. Alcoholics have become sober. Drug addicts have become drug free. The obese have become slim, trim and fit. Why? Because the Bible gives wise counsel for all of life’s problems, and Bible principles change lives forever and for the better.

CONCLUSION OF THE MATTER

The testimony of the Bible is sure. The Word of God is inspired, and it is an authoritative resource for all of life’s problems. 1 Peter 1:25 says that the word of the Lord endures forever. The Bible is a timeless best seller. Although the Bible is an old book, it is a book that is perfectly suited to you and your life.  Study the Bible and experience the transformative power of God’s Word today.
