A New City

A New City

When we closely examine modern cities, we find that they are filled with pollution, corruption and violence. Although this world is filled with wickedness emanating from concrete jungles, Christians have a new city to look forward to. The Bible describes a new city that is neat, clean and peaceful. It is a city that is altogether different from cities that we are accustomed to. Continue reading this article and find out more about this brand new place where the righteous will dwell.

WHO BUILDS THIS AMAZING NEW CITY?

Hebrews 11:16  But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city

Answer: The Bible tells us that God is preparing a real literal city.

WHERE DO WE FIND THIS CITY?

Revelation 21:2  And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

1Kings 8:28-30  Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day: That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.  And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive.

WHERE DO THE INHABITANTS GET FOOD?

Revelation 22:2  In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Revelation 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God

Answer: The citizens of New Jerusalem will eat the fruit of the tree of life. Those who eat from the tree of life are overcomers.

WHO LIVES IN THE HOLY CITY?

Matthew 5:5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Proverbs 11:31  Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

Revelation 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Answer: The meek will inherit the earth made new. The righteous will be rewarded with a place in the new city. Since this new city is a holy city, what kind of people live in a holy city? Do sinners and wicked people live in a holy city? We can clearly see from the Bible that holy people live in a holy city. Wicked people love sin and a place where sinners can’t sin would mean they’d be in misery. Since only holy people live in a holy city, God’s people must be unified in holiness. Consider 1 Peter 2:9, Exodus 28:36,37, Jeremiah 2:3, Psalm 29:2 and Hebrews 12:14.

WHEN WILL THE CITY BE ESTABLISHED?

Malachi 4:1  For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

2Peter 3:10-11  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Malachi 4:3  And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

2Peter 3:13  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Nahum 1:9  What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

Answer: The new city will be established on the earth after sin, sinners, Satan and his angels are utterly destroyed. The wicked, Satan and his angels will not be tormented eternally in some place called hell. They will all be burned up and all that will be left are ashes. The fearful, unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters and liars will not have a place in the new city (Revelation 21:8). New Jerusalem will rest on the purified earth and be the planet’s capital city. Those who are counted as overcomers will enjoy eternal peace, prosperity and joy. In Nahum 1:9, God has promised that sin will not happen again.

WHAT WILL BE SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS NEW HOME?

Revelation 21:3  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Answer: God will dwell closely with His people.

Psalm 16:11  Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore

Answer: In God’s presence, happiness and pleasure are guaranteed.

Revelation 21:4  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Answer: In this new home, there is no more crying, pain, and death.

Isaiah 33:24  And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.

Answer: There will be no more illnesses.

Revelation 22:3  And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

Answer: There will be no more curse.

Isaiah 65:23  They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

Answer: Our labours will be fruitful.

Revelation 7:16  They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat

Answer: No more suffering from hunger and thirst. No more sunburns.

Isaiah 40:31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Answer: We won’t get tired.

Isaiah 35:5-6  Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

Philippians 3:21  Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Answer: We will have new bodies without disease and deformities.

WHAT CHANGES OCCUR ON EARTH?

Revelation 21:1  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Revelation 22:1  And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Isaiah 35:1-2  The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God.

Isaiah 11:6-9  The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

Isaiah 65:25  The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

Answer: God has spoken, by the mouth of His prophets, about many wonderful things (Acts 3:20-21). Major changes happen in the earth made new! There will be no more sea, a pure river as clear as crystal, and deserts will blossom with life. Animals that were once predators will consume entirely plant based diets. Human beings and animals will live together in complete harmony.

WILL THERE BE CHILDREN?

Zechariah 8:5  And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

Malachi 4:2  But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

Answer: There will be children playing in the streets of the new city. They will develop and mature “as calves of the stall”.  Moreover, we have degenerated much since the time of Adam and Eve; however, a time of restitution is coming when we will regain all of the physical and mental powers which we have lost.

WILL THE SAVED KNOW EACHOTHER?

1Corinthaisn 13:12  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Answer: When we are resurrected or translated at the second advent of Jesus Christ, we will recognize one another. Compare the following texts about the Second Advent: İsaiah 26:19; Jeremiah 31:15-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-55; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

WHAT WILL THE INHABITANTS’ BODIES BE LIKE?

Philippians 3:20-21  For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Answer: In Luke 24:36-39, 41-43, 50, 51, we discover that Jesus proved to His disciples that He was real flesh and bones. Jesus even ate food. As flesh and bone, Jesus ascended to His Father and will come again to the earth with a real body (Acts 1:11). We will have glorious bodies free of disease and deformities.

1Peter 1:4  To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

John 14:2  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you

Answer: Yes! This place is for you. God is calling us to Himself. He wants to spend eternity with us. It is our choice whether or not we want to accept the call.

HOW DO I GET A SPOT IN GOD’S KINGDOM?

Revelation 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Revelation 22:14  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Matthew 7:21  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Answer: We have to hear God’s voice. We predominately hear God’s voice through studying the Bible and being taught by the Comforter (John 5:39, 14:26). God will give us directions from His holy book. Moreover, we have to open the doors of our hearts to Jesus. We have to surrender our wills to Jesus and let Him change our lives. Also, commandment keepers have right to the tree of life and will enter into God’s holy city. Those who do God’s will will have a place in His New Kingdom. As we continue to be guided by the Bible and God’s Holy Spirit, doing what the Lord wants us to do and daily surrendering our lives to Him, we will experience victory over sin (1 John 1:7, Psalm 119:130, 2 Corinthians 6:14, 1 John 1:5, Psalm 37:5-6).
